Grocery Savings this Week: Decompressing at Amelia’s

I have been out of sync with my menus, grocery shopping and life in general.  I am trying to find my rhythm since starting our 1st year of homeschooling. It is out there.  I just know it.

I finally got some time alone today and went to peruse the aisle of Amelia’s.  Isn’t that what everyone 100_5904wants to do in their decompressing time?
I found a few deals I thought I’d share.  These are not all inclusive.  There were more.  I simply ran out of camera time.
Plus, my brain is devoid of additional memory space.

For the concerned in the crowd, none of these items are “expired items”.

Tomato sauce.  This is a no frills brand.  I do can my own tomato sauce.  However, we use A LOT of this red delight and will need more this winter.  I decided to add a few more to the stockpile.

The cans are 3 for $1.  And yes, this beats Aldi’s price.  (did I just say that? )  Be aware that the 8 oz cans are also 3 for $1.  Still a good price, but you get more for your money with the larger can.

Peach salsa: 16 oz for 99 cents  I heart this stuff.

Kraft Colby and Monterey Jack Cheese: $1.50 for 8 oz.  We go through an embarrassing amount of cheese here.  The Aldi’s price is $1.99/ 8 oz.  I think this had a sell buy date of next week?  I simply throw mine in the freezer.

Gold medal Flour:  $2.99 for a 10lb bag of unbleached white flour. I use A LOT of flour.  I buy almost all of my flour at Amelia’s when it comes in stock.  I often purchase Gold Medal Whole Wheat Flour for 99 cents/ 5 pounds.  I buy an embarrassing amount. I will often store it in the freezer.

Aldi’s price is about $1.40/ 5 pound however they only carry the bleached all purpose flour.  I like the unbleached.  That kind of sounds snotty of me.

Closer to the holidays, you will find Gold Medal flour goes on sale in the grocery store.  However, I have rarely bought it for less than $1.50/ pound.  I decided to stock up so I can eliminate sales watching.

Eliminating things to “watch for” is high on my priority list.

I do feel I’m being disloyal to Aldi’s, so I thought I’d give them a shout out.  Their onions are only 99 cents for 3 pounds this week.

Now I am off to wash dishes. I would rather grocery shop any day over dishes. Which is obvious by the pile of them in my sink.

  1. You'll find your groove. Ya just gotta give it time. :D

How do you store the 10 pounds of flour? Just use it from the bag? I've considered buying 10 pound bags but I have a canister for 5 lbs and limited space. But we also go through a lot of flour with homemade pizza and pancakes every week. Looks like you bought a lot of great deals!
