Your 1st trip to Aldi’s- What to expect

I am beyond excited.  I have received a handful of emails and feedback from folks that are starting to make changes. They are making significant progress in lowering their grocery spending already!

So far, mostly everyone is excited about Aldi's!  I promise you that this is not a paid endorsement for Aldi's.  If you are excited to try it, here are some things you can expect.

1. Take a quarter with you. It may seem odd and inconvenient.  You must put a quarter in the shopping carts to use one.  I tell you that so that you are not surprised.  They do it that way because they know you will return the cart to it’s proper location when you are done.
2. They only accept cash and debit cards.  They do not accept credit cards. That is the single most inconvenience for me.
3. They do not provide bags. You have the option to purchase bags for a few cents. However, our goal is to save money so I don’t recommend that.  What I do is keep reusable shopping bags in my trunk. I simply load my groceries into the bags when I am at my car. I also will grab an empty box in the store.  Quite often they have them laying on loading counter at the front of store.
4. Manager’s specials.  When you are shopping, keep your eyes peeled for Manager Specials.  They are marked on yellow signs.  The price is written in magic marker, nothing fancy.  Some weeks, I find a ton.  Other weeks, I don’t find any.  Last week, I picked up dinner rolls for a quarter.  I have found bags of lettuce for 50 cents.  It is not outdated.
5. Weekly specials.  Aldi’s does not carry the same thing from week to week.  Yes, most of their items are stable.  However, they will have food items they are just carrying for a limited time.  The same can be said in the non food aisle. Their non food prices are usually very good.  I bought several Christmas presents there this year!

As I mentioned before, over the next few weeks, I will try to highlight the items that I buy at Aldi’s on a normal basis.

If you try Aldi's for the first time, let me know!  I would love to know what you find there!
