2012: A Year in Focus

Celebrating New Years makes one think of one thing: resolutions and goals. I don’t set resolutions. For me it feels too overwhelming to even set a goal for the entire year. So, instead of goals for 2012, I felt it was more necessary for me to set a theme for my year. More like a “big picture” goal.

I spent time in prayer, brainstorming and thinking. What I derived was that I needed more focus.

I can have the best laid plans, goals, and ideas, but without focus they can not be met.

I can have elaborate systems galore, but without focus I just shift from one system to another.

Often, we are a bit over zealous in the New Year. We decide we are going to revamp our entire life. image What we really need to do is stop and focus, step by step. Not determining the 1000 things we are going to change, but a few things we are going to focus on this day. This week. This month.

Some have quite the opposite reaction to the New Year. It is not met with enthusiastic optimism, but with negative pessimism. What will be different about this year? Why bother with changing when I have tried and failed so many times before? We fail to focus on what could be and instead we focus on past failures.

I’ve been on both sides of the equation. So, the more I thought and the more I prayed, the more excited I became about sharing with you a Year in Focus.

This year I am going to focus on:

my Faith

my Family

my Blog

my Home

my Finances

my Reading

my Homeschool

A theme. A word. A focus.focus

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. Philippians 3:13

A year in focus. Won’t you join me?

  5. I like that. I also like "active", like "actively participate in my financial future". Being focused is definitely a huge part of the picture. I have just started a blog about my financial journey and would love to get your thoughts. thriftyhero.wordpress.com.

  6. I love the word focus because it reminds me to consider what's truly important to me. Focus is not about where I want to be, but how I want to live my life and that's the kind of attitude that helps me life a great life every day!

My word for 2012 is RELEASE. This year, I intend to release myself from assumptions, judgments, emotional attachments & physical attachments. I choose to pay attention to doing the next right thing instead of worrying about all the other stuff that distracts me from being happy.
