A Family Favorite…Maple Salmon

My family loves to eat fish. We especially love salmon. Seafood is rarely a frugal option. However, salmon is extremely good for you. Make allowances in your budget by serving fish with cheap side dishes.

We eat 2 pounds of salmon at one meal. Once again Aldi’s comes to the rescue. The price of their wild caught salmon is only $4 per pound. Just be aware that they sell 2 different kinds of salmon. One with the skin on and one without. I know this because I bought the wrong one once. Skinless fish folks here all the way.

Each time I make salmon, I use the same marinade. It is fantastic. It is a 30 minute marinade. However, it also does the job when you forget to do not marinate it for that long. What makes this marinade great is that all of the ingredients are pantry staples.

Maple Salmon

Mix together:100_5071

      • 1/4 cup maple syrup (I have also substituted King Syrup or pancake syrup. It still tastes great)
      • 2 Tablespoons soy sauce
      • 1 clove minced garlic, minced
      • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt (I ran out of this…it tasted great so now I omit)
      • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

Place 1 pound of Salmon in a 9x11 baking dish. Pour the marinade over the salmon and cover. Marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, turning once.

Bake salmon in marinade at 400 degrees (uncovered) for 20 minutes.

Or Grill until salmon can easily flake.

In the summer we grill. In the winter we bake.. Either way Maple Salmon is a family favorite.
