A Post Christmas Simple Money Saving Tip

My “money saving” tip today is so simple I feel almost silly sharing it.  If you are like me, you do still need reminded of these simple things.  Often, I will read something online and think, “oh yea.  I knew that.  Why don’t I do it?”

This is probably one of those tips.  But maybe not.  Maybe it will be truly life changing information for you. Ok.  Not that exciting, but it’s fun to be dramatic with the little things in life once in awhile.

See these red and white beauties?

Somehow we manage to accumulate many of these in mass quantities during the season.  For years, I would toss the leftovers.  Not so anymore.  I wised up in my frugalista ways.  Now, I throw them in my baking storage container in my pantry.  There they lay until the next Christmas season.  Don’t be grossed out.  Candy canes don’t “go bad.”

Then I use them to make peppermint bark and our family favorite peppermint cookies (which I failed to share the recipe during my ₵entsible Christmas series.)   The good news?  You don’t need that many candy canes to create edible goodies.

Is this the money saving tip that will send you into financial freedom?  Sorry.  No deal.  However, it is:

  • one less ingredient to buy
  • eliminating waste
  • one less penny spent, one more penny to save
  • one more reason to create edible goodness

Now go raid your kids stash of candy canes.

Do you save your candy canes, eat them or trash them?

  1. Eat them. I had big plan to give out candy cane reindeer this year but our one reindeer making session resulted in me doing all the work. So I have 2 unopened boxes of them. We'll be in candy cane heaven until spring!
