More Keys to Lower Grocery Spending Success-Part 2

Yesterday I shared with you 10 ways to start lowering your grocery bill.  My quick brainstorming session produced even more ways than that!  Here are 10 more keys to putting more cash in your pocket each week..

11. Don’t waste anything.  Just a little fish left?  Throw it in the freezer.  It’s amazing how you can use bits and pieces of leftovers to create a yummy soup a month down the road.
12. Choose your recipes wisely. Some recipes are much more frugal than others.  Lots of cans equals more money.
13.  Cook with dried rice and dried beans. This can be life changing in the frugal realm. Ok.  Perhaps that is a little dramatic.  However, it saves serious moola.
14.  Use healthy fillers with your meat.  Brown rice, oats, and beans are very inexpensive and super good for you.  Mix them in with chicken and beef to make it go a lot further.
16.   Stockpile.  It is a must.  The number 1 stockpile key?  Buy at the lowest price even before you need it.
17. Get creative.  Allrecipes is my best friend.
18. Focus on simplicity.  I enjoy creating gourmet recipes. However, at this stage of life I need to focus on simple and realistic.  It gives me the energy to focus on cooking from scratch and grocery store planning.
19. Read frugal blogs.  Find 1 or 2 of your favorite frugal blogs and read them regularly. There is always more to learn.  Plus constant encouragement is imperative for continued success.
20. Get organized.  This one sometimes leaves me struggling.  I have found that keeping an organized pantry, freezer, coupons, menu plan and recipe system saves me a great deal of money and energy.   This is a continual work in progress for me.
15.  Coupons.  I’m saving this for last.  I do use coupons. I do believe in coupons.  However, I think they should be one of the last steps taken.  Why?  Because they can overwhelm folks.  To be honest, I think they can be completley eliminated from your routine and you can still save money.  I’m not doing that anytime soon.  However, I’m giving coupon haters hope.

This list is by no means complete.  However, I will let you digest this information.

Are you wanting to hear the specifics regarding each of these keys?  Keep hanging around the Frugal Flamingo and I guarantee you will.

  1. excellent, and extremely useful post!
I look forward to hearing your stockpile tips. This is actually the one thing that I cut out of our shopping, and I think it is what helps me to make budget. I was spending too much money "stocking up."
    #19. check. I read Frugal Flamingo :)

  2. #11 is where I fail! We are so wasteful! I feel like I do a good job with bargains and frugal meals...but then we don't eat the leftovers! I get so mad when I have to throw stuff out!! Def need to work on this one!
